SANTA MONICA HIGH SCHOOL - January 31, 2004

By Charli Harshbarger

The 2004 year has started out on a high spot. The Knights stole the game with a victory over the Santa Monica High School staff with a final score of 83-68. This brings their wins this season to 5!!!

Jillian sang a beautiful rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner at the beginning of the game. With a small head injury received to a faculty member things are bound to get better. You’d be glad to know the faculty member was ok, receiving 8 stitches to his brow.

The Knights would like to welcome back to the 2003-2004 season Riley Smith (New York Minute), Trevor Penick (O-Town), Khleo Thomas (Holes), and Brutha (recording artist). Fresh faces that made their first appearances with our squad this year was Justin Guarini (American Idol), Zane (recording artist), and an unbilled Kirsten Storms (Zenon, Days of our Lives). Of course, not to be forgotten, our resident players Cylk Cozart (The Marvin Gaye story), Dion Basco (City Guys), Wesley Jonathan (What I Like About You), Kiko Ellsworth (Bad Boys II, Port Charles), Tyler Hoechlin (7th Heaven, Road to Perdition), Arlen Escarpeta (American Dreams), Tha Goodfellas (Power 106), Josh Henderson (One on One), Alisa Reyes (Passions, American Family), Jillian (recording artist) and Vanessa Lengies (American Dreams).

After the rough start, the teams were off. The Knights made the first move by having Josh Henderson make one of three - three pointers that put the Knights in the lead. However, the Vikings were not going out without a fight. They tied the Knights at the start of the second quarter bringing the score to an even 8-8. Then we had the pleasure of having the Viking Pep Squad shake their groove things to entertain the crowd between quarters. The Knights again lead the Vikings with some well place assists by Cylk Cozart and Arlen Escarpeta. The half time show started as Brutha performed for the first time this season and wowed the crowd with their vocal skills and impressive hip-hop dancing. They also announced that they have been signed to Brian McKnight’s record label, congratulations guys! Up next was Jillian, who is working on her debut project. The guys signed autographs took pictures and Zane even jumped up on the table to reach the people that couldn't reach him. Then third quarter started and much like the first two quarters the guys battled back and fourth for the ball. The game ended with a tremendous amount of victory for the Knights with a final score of 83-68 in favor of the Knights.
