The Dodgers/Angels Celebrity Softball Game

Celebrity Game time: 8:30 PM – 10:00 PM

 

Ten celebrities will play in a mixed team with former MLB legends in a charity softball game that will bring awareness to The ALS Association to assist in the battle against amyotrophic lateral sclerosis a.k.a. Lou Gehrig’s disease.

The Celebrity Softball Game will take place right after the afternoon MLB season game of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim vs. the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Steve Garvey (Host) – For 13 years he was the 1st Baseman for the LOS ANGELES DODGERS.  He was the National League Most Valuable Player, 10 time All-Star, 2 time All-Star MVP, 4 time Gold Glove Award winner, appeared in 5 World Series, and holds the National League record for 1,207 consecutive games played.

Al Joyner – In 1984 he became the first American winner in 80 years to win the Olympic Gold medal in the TRIPLE JUMP event. That same year he won the Jim Thorpe Award for the Best American Track & Field competitor. He became the first "brother and sister" to medal in the same Olympics. He was a three-time NCAA All-American indoor and outdoor champion in the long jump. He has been inducted to both the Illinois and Arkansas Hall of Fame. He is the current UCLA women's jump coach.

A.J. Buckley – For six seasons he has been currently starring as "Adam Ross" on the hit CBS television series CSI: NY.

Bill Russell – He was the club's everyday shortstop for 12 years, anchoring an infield that included third baseman Ron Cey, second baseman Davey Lopes and first baseman Steve Garvey. This infield crew has the distinction of being the longest intact unit in baseball history with eight and a half seasons together. He batted .263 over his regular season career, and posted the same average in 23 World Series games.
Clyde Wright – He was a pitcher for the California Angels for eight seasons.  He ranks third in Angels' history for most victories.  He made the All-Star selection, was the 1970 AL Comeback Player of the Year when that same year he pitched a no-hitter.
Danny Pino – For seven seasons he starred as "Scotty Valens" on the hit CBS television series COLD CASE.

Dave Frost – He played as a pitcher for the California Angels for three seasons. He had his biggest year in 1979 with 16 wins and 10 losses, led Angel starters in ERA as well as a shutout vs. the A's.

Darrell Thomas

Derrel Thomas - He played with the Los Angeles Dodgers for four seasons and the California Angels for one season. He was a member of the Dodgers 1981 World Series champion team. He held the distinction of being one of a few players to have played every position (except pitcher) at least once in his career.

DeWayne Buice – He played two seasons as a relief pitcher with the California Angels.  He was Pitcher of the Year and Rolaids Relief Man in 1987.  He is one of six pitchers in the Angels' 48-year history to strike out at least 100 batters in a season without starting a game.
Elliott Yamin – He became a fan favorite on the fifth season of American Idol. His self-titled debut album was at No. 1 on the Billboard Independent Albums chart and at No. 3 on the Billboard 200. His album went gold and his hit single "Wait for You" has gone Platinum. He has just completed his 3rd solo album to be released in September 2011 followed by a National Tour.
Jason Ritter – He starred as "Sean Walker" on the NBC series THE EVENT and PARENTHOOD on the same network. He just finished filming the independent movie I AM I.

Jay Johnstone - An outfielder who played four seasons with the California Angels and three seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers. He went to the World Series twice and was part of the 1981 champion team, hitting a pinch-two run home run in Game Four of the 1981 World Series.

Jose Canseco Jose Canseco – He started playing in the major leagues in 1985 with the Oakland Athletics and was named the league's rookie of the year by several publications. In 1988, he became the first player to hit 40 or more home runs and steal 40 or more bases in the same season and won the American League's Most Valuable Player Award. He recently has authored a book called: JUICED: WILD TIMES, RAMPANT 'ROIDS, SMASH HITS, and HOW BASEBALL GOT BIG.
Kate Linder – For the past 25 years, she has played the role of housekeeper "Esther Valentine" on the daytime drama THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS. She is also an ALS National spokesperson.
Kenny Landreaux

Kenny Landreaux – He played two seasons with the California Angels and six seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers as their center fielder. He was an All-Star selection and a World Series Champion. While playing for the Minnesota Twins he held the record of a 31-game hitting streak.

Laura Berg – She played centerfield on the Women's Olympic Softball Team. She's a two-time World Cup Champion, a three-time Pan American Gold medalist, a four-time World Champion, a three-time Olympic Gold medalist and an Olympic Silver medalist.

Lisa Fernandez - She played pitcher on the Women's Olympic Softball Team. She's a three-time Olympic Gold medalist, a three-time Pan American Gold medalist, and a four-time World Champion.

Lovie Jung – She played second base on the Women's Olympic Softball Team. She's a two-time World Cup Champion, a three-time Pan American Gold medalist, a two-time World Champion, and an Olympic Gold and Silver medalist.

Mike Catherwood - Known by his radio name "Psycho Mike", he is currently the co-host of the KROQ show Loveline. He can also be heard on KROQ's morning KEVEN AND BEAN SHOW. He recently appeared on DANCING WITH THE STARS.
Omar Benson Miller

Omar Benson Miller – He is currently starring as “Walter Simmons” in the hit CBS television series CSI: MIAMI.  He co-starred in the feature films THE EXPRESS and 8 MILE.  He will be co-starring in the up-coming Disney feature film THE SORCERER’S APPRENTICE.

Rex Hudler – He completed his 11th season as the Angels' baseball analyst on FOX Sports Net and KCOP. A veteran of 30 years in professional baseball, 21 as a player, played three seasons for the Angels as an infielder and outfielder. In his final season with the club, he recorded a .311 average and career-high 16 home runs in 92 games.
Rudy Law – He was a speedy outfielder that played 7 years in the Majors, accumulating a .271 career batting average. He has the distinction of stealing 3 bases in one game. In 1983, he stole 77 bases, setting the White Sox single-season record.
Steve Yeager

Steve Yeager – Lou Brock called him "the best-throwing catcher in the game". He spent fourteen seasons with the Dodgers as their catcher. He went to the World Series four times winning it in 1981 along with the World Series Most Valuable Player Award.

“Sweet” Lou Johnson – He played one season with the Los Angeles Angels and two seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers going twice to the World Series.  He became the hero of Game 7 of the 1965 World Series when he belted a solo home run which helped win the game.

Tairia Flowers - She played the utility positions on the Women's Olympic Softball Team. She's a World Cup Champion, a two-time Pan American Gold medalist, a two-time World Champion, and an Olympic Gold and Silver medalist.

Thomas Jane – He is currently starring as "Ray Drecker" in the HBO television series HUNG. He starred in the feature films THE MIST and THE PUNISHER. He also starred as "Mickey Mantle" in the television movie 61.

Tim Salmon – He played for 13 years with the Angels. He is considered one of the greatest players in the Angels' franchise history. He was a member of the 2002 World Series champion team. He is the Angels' all-time leader in home runs, runs scored, walks, and slugging percentage, second in franchise history in RBI's and won the "Rookie of the Year" award.

Todd Zeile – During his 15 year career in the Majors, he hit at least one homerun for each of the 11 teams he played for, distinguishing him as the one player in major league history to have hit a home run for over 10 teams. He is also one of 41 players ever to hit a home run in his final at-bat. The versatile star played both third base and was a catcher.

Tommy Davis – He played with the Los Angeles Dodgers for seven seasons and the California Angels for one season. He was a 3-time All-Star selection and a 1963 World Series champion. He was also one of the most proficient pinch-hitters in baseball history.
