2nd Annual Cory Lidle Memorial Poker Game

The 2nd Annual Cory Lidle Memorial Poker Tournament Hosted by Randy Wolf, taking place on Sunday, December 14, 2008 at the Hollywood Park Casino at 3883 W. Century Blvd., Inglewood, CA, has once again selected The Make-A-Wish Foundation as the benefiting charity.

Lidle, a major league pitcher for the New York Yankees, considered the Make-A-Wish Foundation his charity of choice. He had spent countless hours in the last few years of his life planning and hosting poker tournament fundraisers in Las Vegas, before his untimely death in a plane accident on October 11, 2006 in New York City. Shortly after the accident, a handful of his friends decided that a perfect tribute to Cory would be to continue his charity poker events.

"The spirit of the Cory Lidle Memorial Poker Tournament is a chance for Cory's family, friends, colleagues, fans and acquaintances to continue Cory's important mission of charitable giving to the Make-A-Wish Foundation," said tournament director, Lou Birdt.

Tournament planners are encouraging members of the public to join Cory's friends, including sports athletes and poker professionals, to celebrate Cory's legacy of love, giving and friendship and support of the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

The inaugural event culminated in bringing together nearly 280 people and raising $60,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Greater Los Angeles. As for this year's event, the foundation hopes to raise over $100,000 and has added another reason for people to attend and support the event. As additional incentive to players, the foundation has secured a seat in the 2009 World Series of Poker's Main Event for the winner of this year's Cory Lidle Memorial Poker Tournament. The prize has been generously sponsored by Major League Baseball player, Randy Wolf and his agent, Arn Tellem.

"This is a way for all of us to come together in an atmosphere of celebration to remember and honor our dear friend Cory and share the wonderful me memories we hold," said Birdt.

"It is an honor for the Make-A-Wish Foundation to be considered Cory's favorite charity," said Kelli Seely, president and CEO of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Greater Los Angeles. "The Greater Los Angeles chapter was proud to be included in this fundraising tribute to a man who achieved as a superior athlete and a philanthropic contributor.
